7 Blogs, 2 share/critique, and 2 Rules Dominance

These two photos are for my share and critique from flying over the Yellowstone river. I cropped the original and enhanced the coloring and brightness in lightroom and made the focal point the river and placed it in the center of the frame.

These two photos are for my last share two and critique. The photos are from the east side of the main river running through Portland Oregon with a nice shot of the western downtown side of the city. The top photo I edited in lightroom by cropping slightly and again enhancing the lighting and colors while trying to keep that gloomy and dark aspect with the overcast sky.

Blog #1 flying in Montana in the winter is a beautiful time because the snow can create a whole different perspective of nature and the terrain around you. I shot these photos from our baron while in southern portion of billings and couldn't resist taking some pictures of the mountains and snow.

Blog #2 flying in Wyoming is just about as pretty as Montana. Mountains again are the prettiest thing to shoot from a airplane window. The low clouds also made the shot even more interesting and drew my attention.

Blog #3 Walking through sandy beaches in western Oregon on a warm day. Beaches are not only a holiday destination, but also a great opportunity for some water and land photography. I had a calm clear day so I took full advantage of the landscape in front of me.

Blog #4 Cruising by Mt. Hood at 250 mph! airplanes and skiing are some of my favorite things, thankfully Mt. Hood has ski resorts. Showing off my two favorite hobbies, i was lucky enough to be sitting on the correct side of the airplane to capture the airplane and MT. Hood while only needing to enhance the colors a little bit to get rid of some sun glare.

Blog #5 Flying to Sheridan, WY. sunsets and bright sunny flights to and from always make for a great day in my mind. I was lucky to achieve both of those one day with one of my students. The top is from our flight down to Sheridan along the mountains and the bottom is of sunset in the distance just out of sheridan returning to billings.

Blog #6 Clouds... particularly storms are a sight beyond belief. these photos were from a massive hail storm that marched through Billings during the summer. The tops of the clouds seemed endless and underneath was ferocious winds and ice pellets. The size and magnitude is worthy of a picture.

Blog #7 Late afternoon flying in northern Billings on a smooth flight. the lighting and time of day made this usually standard dreary flight much more than normal. I took these not thinking anything nice would turn out from them but after some work in lightroom, I think I got them to be something more than average.

Rules of Dominance #1 and #2
So with dominance I focused on clarity and bright colors gather the viewers attention. all photos were taken on Rocky Campus. I played in Lightroom and enhanced the reds and orange leaves and petals to help exaggerate the brightness to lure attention. Then I took some close ups and centered the flowers in the center to also help show how clarity takes dominance over fuzzy objects in the background of a shot.

indiana blog

For the final blog, I wanted to end on some photos of the Midwest, specifically Indiana. This was my first and only time to the state and I went with Brian J. sophomore year spring semester to his home. we took out the airplane and went night flying to some airports, which is depicted through the first picture. The second picture is of the flight into Indianapolis the day before on the airliner. I wanted to showcase the flat aspect to the state and how its so different from Montana and the mountains.
